Responsive Custom Ecommerce

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh needed a responsive, mobile-ready web application that would allow their museums to sell memberships, summer camp registrations and event registrations online.  From summer camps at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Oakland to events at the Warhol, an integrated web-based application was needed.

Meeting the Needs of a Diverse User Base

Developing functional specifications: the wireframing process

We worked with Carnegie Museum staff to determine the user demographic and their requirements for the software, as well as the technical challenges presented by integration with several existing back-office softwares. From developing functional specifications to determining how those specifications would be affected by the technical requirements was a key part of the project.

Category search and filter interface

Our UI/UX Lead, Susanna, designed an interface that allows the Carnegie Museum's diverse regional user-base to quickly and easily search and filter their options, and register for memberships, events and summer camps on everything from smart phones to tablets to traditional desktop computers.

Simplifying Complex Technical Hurdles

Our technical team took over when it was time to integrate with complex internal systems at the museums, and through a process of research, analysis, programming and iterative integration testing, ensured the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh were able to offer online registration for their busy summer of 2015 camp season on schedule, and on budget. During critical portions of the project the Blue Archer team met daily with Carnegie staff to ensure positive communication and quick turnaround on any change requests.

Supporting the Carnegie Museum Staff

We designed a solution that would allow each museum to have their own landing pages, and to point their users directly to the events and summer camps they were interested in from the museum websites.

Our SEO specialists coordinated with the technical team to ensure that the web application wouldn't compete with Carnegie Museum Websites on search engines, all while providing excellent flexibility for use by the Museum Group's marketing staff, who can send out direct, branded links to specific camps and events as needed.

Carnegie functional staff are able to add additional museums and products to the web application, ensuring a low-cost and flexible ongoing solution for the museums that will automatically synchronize with their internal systems. This integration will save the Carnegie Museums countless hours of productivity, and ensure they never need to manually enter submissions made through the application.
