What Free Tuition Means to the Tech Industry

In President Barack Obama’s focus in his State of Union speech Tuesday, he touched on improving the skills of U.S. workers, specifically through free tuition at community colleges for students who maintain a 2.5 grade-point average.  Many IT companies don’t require a BS degree for their entry-level jobs.  So when IT degrees are now free at community college, this in turn boosts the qualifications for employment in IT.

Republican Campaign Challenges Net Neutrality

In a last-minute campaign, Republicans are gathering support for net neutrality legislation that critics say is written in a way that fails to uphold equal Internet access.  President Obama, who supports stronger regulations, is asking the FCC to reclassify broadband Internet under Title II of the Telecomm. Act, a move that will allow the agency to prevent Internet providers from charging customers for better Internet Access.  However, the Republican bill would stop the FCC from making this reclassification.

What Makes This Year Different for “The Internet of Things”

There are a variety of devices that have never been seen before, including smart toothbrushes and anti-drowning bracelets (bracelets that let you know if someone is drowning).  The issue is that there are so many individual products, but what people really want is connection.  Each device has each of their apps, and there is no way of pulling these things together.  The speciation of wearable technology is hugely important in the progress of the ideas.  Sooner or later, wearable’s will eventually become a fad with their low-cost nature and the amount of information they can hold.  What’s happening is the amount of big data that is being collected by so many different kinds of ‘sensors.’
