Social media, with its ever-changing content and updates, can be hard to follow, especially when utilizing it for business purposes.  However, it can be easier to stay in touch when you have a go-to source for what you need to know.  Here's what you might have missed this week:

Facebook

Facebook recently updated their newsfeed algorithm to include two new features to the site: story bumping and last actor.  The idea behind story bumping is the ability to take stories or posts that you typically cannot see, because they have very few views, and bumping them further up into the newsfeed.  Last actor is where Facebook will automatically take a user's last 50 interactions and give more weight to the people and pages the user has most recently interacted with.

Twitter

The Lead Generations Card was a program Twitter test ran in May to a limited number of businesses.  Since the test has been a success, Twitter is now allowing all businesses to use the feature of Lead Generations Card.  This allows a business to register users and their emails for promotions or memberships directly within a tweet.   Businesses that used this feature saw an increase of user engagement with their tweets, as well as a sizeable increase in the amount of contacts they receive.

YouTube

The Youtube apps for Andriod and iOS have recently been updated.  While apps for watching YouTube videos hadn't been widely used previously, it's sure to start growing in popularity once the new app features are discovered.  With the YouTube app you are now able to watch a video at the top of your screen as well as continue browsing while you watch.  Be sure to check that all your videos are enabled to be viewed on mobile devices.

Google Plus

Google Plus has recently been updated so that it will be available on iOS devices.  The Google Plus app is mainly for higher versions of iOS, such as version 6 and above, and will be tailored more for the iPhone 5.  A new function the app will include is the replacement of Google Messenger with "Hangouts".  A user can initiate a "hang-out" with someone just by visiting their profile.  With this new inclusion of Apple users, Google Plus may see an influx of users.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has just created a brand new feature for their site geared towards business users: Sponsored Updates.  A sponsored update is similar to an ad for a business, but in a much less aggressive way.  When a business makes a post or update, you can choose to "sponsor" it, which will then allow the post to be seen by many different people on their homepage feed, even if they aren't following the company.  These sponsored updates can reach out to more than 225 million members of LinkedIn.
