Twitter Updates

Twitter seems to be popping up everywhere lately, whether it is with a new change or record earnings. We adore Twitter here, it may actually be one of our favorite platforms. So, it only made sense to get all of those updates in one place.

Twitter & Google Strike A Deal

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo announced that Google will now have access to Twitter's full feeds. This was commonly referred to previously as "Firehose."

The goal of Google search is to have all the information someone might search for. Tweets are filled with great and often timely content. The tweets themselves should help Google’s search results be more relevant to its users.

Basically, Tweets will now be searchable content. If you're a business, we are hoping you have an active, relavant Twitter account!

Homepage Makeover

If you love Twitter, don't get too worked up, because you may never actually see it. This is for site visitors that do not have an account. It will present a tiled homepage that will give people the opportunity to explore instead of just looking a solid image with a form.

Why would they change the page for people who aren't even users?

At Twitter’s analyst day in November, executives said more than 500 million people visit Twitter.com in some capacity each month without logging in. That’s a massive audience of potential users the company has done little to keep around.

We think so too.

Promoting & Third Parties

It is so much fun to engage on the platform organically, sometimes it is hard to think about promoting a tweet. Twitter has done two things that will make advertising much more desirable.

Quick Promote

Quick promote is available to all users and targeted towards small to medium sized businesses. Instead of accessing an ad platform to create a promoted tweet, you can instead use your Tweet activity dashboard

Syndicated Promoted Tweets

You read it right. This means that you may be able to advertise from Twitter to a different platform. Don't worry, our minds are blown too.

We’ve been thinking a lot about how we can take the rich canvas of the Promoted Tweet and extend it beyond Twitter, to all the places where Tweets go today. That’s why we’re pleased to announce our first partnerships to syndicate Promoted Tweets outside of Twitter: with Flipboard (@flipboard) and Yahoo! JAPAN.

This opens up a new playing field for digital marketers. Will you be upping your Twitter game with the new changes?
